When you are old enough to sweat [and stink], a person begins using deodorant. It’s just something that is done, hopefully. Of course, the same product that is supposed to be for hygiene could be killing us. Standard every day deodorants that you find on your grocery store shelves contain a metal called Aluminum.
Why would a personal hygiene product contain metal? Aluminum is used in deodorant due to its ability to clog or plug the sweat glands. The goal is to keep the sweat from coming out and to use perfumes to cover up the odor. There are deodorants that claim to be aluminum free however, you must use caution and check the ingredients. Alum, Aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum sulfate or even natural mineral salts are all forms of aluminum.
This morning I was looking at the ingredients in one of those clinical strength deodorants only to see that on the warning label said not to use if you had kidney disease! It is claimed to cause bone and brain diseases from excess aluminum. The aluminum in deodorant is also claimed to cause Alzheimer’s but there is no proof of this apparently.
While I cannot guarantee it, I found an Asian deodorant (Mu Shang Aluminum-Free Herbal Deodorant) that is completely aluminum free and uses herbs that are anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Instead of blocking the sweat glands, they clean them and fight the source of the problem instead of covering it up.
Wouldn’t that be great! Have you ever tried a product like this? I would love to have something great going on before summer hits so please let us know what natural aluminum free deodorant you use.

Many years ago I used some deoderant stone, that was covered in some salt film. Came in it’s own draw string bag. I think I used it once after shaving and it stung like h***!! You ran water over it then rubbed under arms. It worked for a while but not always. Then as I get older in the perimenopausal state, hormones need more help.
Sometimes, that’s a doctor issue.
I’ve used Tom’s of Maine deoderant for years. Currently Calendula scent (I hate overly PERFUMY junk and avoid them like the plague) You can get Tom’s online or at Jungle Jim’s. Maybe even krogers in natural foods section? I wear deoderants but NOT ANTI-Perspirants..that’s what can get you into trouble. If one is really nervous about sweating you can wear perspiration shields. I know women years ago who wore such things in wedding dresses..handy for summer weddings.
