Food Addiction, Really? Binge Eating Revealed.

Food addictions and binge eating? Isn’t the whole addiction thing just meant for alcohol and drugs? It’s just food, not like a carcinogenic so how could you possibly blame your problems on food? The only problems that I have ever heard of regarding food is Bilemia and Aneorexia. Personally, I could never be one of those! I like food too much to either not eat it at all or eat it and then throw it up. I don’t have a problem, I just love food. I admit that I live to eat and not eat to live like I hear you are suppose to do.

Who cares that there are times when I am eating something that tastes so good I will keep eating it long after I am full until I feel like I could vomit? Why is it a problem that I can go to the bakery and get two cookies, one for me and for my son and yet he never even knows I went to the bakery?

Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm) recently went on record with ABC’s 20/20 saying that he is a food addict. This comes also after writing about his life in a new book where he talks about the issue. Also know as binge eating, people feel that it’s a lack of will people. I can personally tell you that it’s not.

Do you think that I really want to see the weight creeping up and up? Without any disrespect to my family, I have my father’s genes when it comes to that and I will gain it all in the lower half, which is not something that I am yet willing to accept. I have a wonderful family and any body shape does not make the person: however,  I have serious health issues that I have to keep in mind and extra weight is not something that will fare well to them.  So, this is about me and me alone.

Actually, it’s about thousands of people out there with a serious problem that is not necessarily recognized yet and I want to help those who suffer in silence.

A passage from the book, Crave: Why you Binge Eat and How to Stop, says it well:  Regardless, the cravings can seem insatiable. …the binge eater can hardly refuse the cravings…The urges to eat are often as intense as they are spontaneous.

Although the book claims that the eating is associated with feelings, I still cannot understand why sometimes one cookie is enough and then there are other times when I will gorge myself on them even though I am not hungry and my stomach is rebelling.

As I continue to read this book, please tell you what you can when you eat out of control. I will report back as I read through the book.

I truly believe some of the problems are control issues. When we don’t have control with important things in our lives we participate in behavior that we can control, eating, smoking, drinking, they can all turn into addictions.I myself have certain foods that I love and I will most of the time eat till I’m sick unless someone is there to stop me.It just tastes that good!My generation was also told to eat everything on your plate. As a grown adult I find myself doing just that. And money is hard to come by so I also will eat it because I paid for it, tasty or not.I have heard of binge eaters that have become that because of lack of food as children. We are creatures of habit and I think too many things are wrongly labeled. So before you wrongly accuse yourself, think of the reason you really want that cookie.

I know why I want that cookie! It tastes good. But, sometimes I can eat just one and other times I can’t stop my self from eating them all.
