I realize that this is completely different from what I usually talk about however, this topic seems to be coming up more and more on one of the groups that I belong to. I have a strong opinion about the name game and feel for the children that are given names that can barely be pronounced or require two lines to write out. Not to mention the ones that are simply blah.
My son’s name is Michael. Yes, I said Michael. Not very unique. If I had realized that every other boy is named Michael, they seem to be hyper and the only Michael that I really new was a jerk, I probably would have named him something else. He was a month early and I panicked. He’s cute and sweet (even if not all of the time) and I love the nick name that my husband gave so it’s fine. I am writing this because I see a lot of talk about naming your children unique names and have a plead for you. 1) This is about your child, NOT YOU!, right?2) What possible nick names can the rotten kids in school call
him/her?
3) Will is haunt him/her when applying for school/job?
4) Will it pre-disposition him/her to be something they may not
like when they grow up?
5) Is the name like a tatoo? Sounded good at the time and now
you wish you could take it back…
6) And, this is NOT YOU! Your child has to bear this name until
they die, or are old enough to change it. If you are really set on a name that you like, perhaps you could make it the middle name or at least make the middle name something more “normal” standard so that they have a choice when the child get’s older.
