Some of you know that I have been studying children and Autism, which led to vaccines and gluten free diets. I have actually been experimenting with gluten free food myself. It’s baking gluten free when I get home since that seems to be the biggest problem for me personally.
What does concern me the even more than the food is the vaccinations that our children are started on at birth. Sadly I, as many parents do, never even questioned the vaccinations and barely read the paperwork that I signed when my own son was getting his shots. I just figured, “Well, this is what his doctor says he has to have.” It never dawned on me that even though this is what they say he needs, Why do I have to sign something saying it’s OK with me?
Better yet, Why is there Mercury in my son’s vaccines? Isn’t that the stuff in the old thermometers that we were afraid to break because of the Mercury dangers?
I have not had my son’s 6 year vaccinations done yet because honestly, I am a bit afraid. He did not get the flu shot this past winter either and did get sick. M was actually out of school for a whole week. I felt so sorry and helpless and he refused to go to the doctor. For those of you freaking out right about now, as long as he stayed within certain parameters, I respected his wishes but made it clear that if his fever went up any more he was had visit his pediatrician.
Each time that I had taken him to the clinic prior to this visit, right away the answer was antibiotics. How is a child’s body supposed to learn to fight if it’s never given the chance?
His fever never went about 102 and was brought down by alternating Tylenol and Motrin, which also helped with pain and sore throat. The first couple of days were the worse because his throat hurt so bad he didn’t even want a popsicle. The doctor told me that I had to keep him hydrated and rested while his body fought. So there was always a glass of water or diluted juice around to sip on and in two days he was eating lightly. After about three days, he was reading again and we even started a school project about his cold. After a week, he wanted out of the house and was back to his old self.
Now, his body knows what a cold is and how to fight it. Will I take him for the flu shot next year? My husband and I will discuss that with the pediatrician and decide when it’s time. This still leaves his six year vaccines.
Earlier today a Mom on Cafe Mom was talking about how some people think that un-vaccinated children should not be allowed around vaccinated children. Are you kidding me? So, you are telling me that your child that has been “protected” against said disease cannot be next to a child that has not? Does this mean that you really have no faith in the shot that someone just put into their body?
Jenny McCarthy and Dr. Kartzinel have written a great book Healing and Preventing Autism: A Complete Guide, which discusses the vaccinations that could be causing harm to our children and diets for special needs children, such as those with Autism. The website, Generation Rescue, goes more in depth on vaccines and the differences in each as well as an alternative schedule.

I will base my own descisions on the facts and not just what someone tells me is right! What do you think?

Thank You! You promised to look into this and you did–and wow! The amount of information you’ve discussed already takes many parents of kids on the spectrum years to understand! Keep going–you’re doing a lot of good in helping others understand this!
Thank you. It means a lot to me to be able to use my experiences to help others. I am not quite sure what allows one person to be sick and learn from it to move forward and another to completely regress into themselves. Since I was so fortunate to have had God in my life and not turn away from Him I try to use all of my being to serve Him by teaching others how to overcome these trials. I believe that through Him and each other we can learn and move forward together.
I am very into the GF way of eating now although far from perfect. I have a special project that I am working on for both of us too but that’s a secret for now.
